From January 1, this reflective element must be in all motorized vehicles of Chileans.
As of January 1, 2016, a new decree for motorists that determines the mandatory carrying of the reflective vests within the emergency kit of each vehicle begins to apply.
The measure seeks to reduce the risks of accidents and collisions in places of low visibility or at night, when drivers must get off their vehicles to repair any damage.
Do not carry this item in an easily accessible place, such as the glove box or under the seat, could mean fines between $ 9,000 and $ 22,500 (0.2 to 0.5 UTM). However, the first days will operate a "white march,” where the examiners will assess whether or not to take the fines.
What are the characteristics that the reflective vest should have?
The vest must be yellow (otherwise risking even a fine) and made of fluorescent material, "this being understood as one that emits optical radiation of greater wavelength than absorbed,” as stated in the decree.
At the same time, it has to have retro reflective bands at least 5 centimeters wide.
Said bands must be at least 5 centimeters above the lower edge of the vest and separated from each other by a minimum distance of 5 centimeters.
