To organize the ADAC TOTAL 24h race, a gigantic team is in action. On and off the track a huge effort is made to make the event a success. Race management, organization, sports maintenance, security personnel and the participants themselves - all contribute to the success. Birgit Arnold from the organization management and Manfred Strack, the operational project manager of the world's biggest motorsport event, are delivering impressive figures.
35 people belong to the team of race management. In addition to the race director and organizer, the circuit safety manager and the medical chief of operations and the secretaries and assistants of the race management are all close quarters.
130 persons are also active in the extended organization, such as stewards and technical commissioners, the technical committee, helpers in the paper collection and driver information, welcome center/check-in, time taking, award ceremony, Parc Fermé, camping organization, social program, runner.
960 marshals distributed over a total of 17 sections - located around the Nordschleife. The coordination is carried out by 32 section heads and their deputies.
Eighty marshals are deployed in the pit lane. Since 2014, they wear protective safety clothing: fireproof coveralls and helmet and reflective armbands sew on reflective tapes and safety vests.
35 officials are in the paddock on the way, there to regulate the events there and, for example, to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
30 people move the shuttle vehicles that transport teams, sports facilities, journalists and VIPs from one place to another.
35 sports teams are needed for pre-start and grid, another 20 marshals are on Sunday at the Parc Fermé in use.
The ADAC welcomes 1,800 guests from all over Germany to the local club meeting in the 24-hour race this year.
52 members are working in shifts in the DMSB squadron to help them as quickly as possible. They are in eleven S-cars on site.
The intervention team comprises 30 persons, which safeguards accident sites and thus enables rescue and rescue measures. This year, four AudiA6 Avant cars are posted around the track. In addition, five Audi A6 Avant is used as medical cars to bring the emergency physicians in an emergency even faster to the scene.
30 persons are deployed on the additional safety and rescue vehicles of the E-Unit, equipped with oil binder and additional fire extinguishers.
Two specially equipped Extrication vehicles simplify the recovery of participants with suspected spinal injuries.
30 specialists are responsible for the rescue of damaged participants and are stationed around the track, equipped with tow trucks and mountain tractors. Two vehicles are on-site with a compressor, a rammer and specially trained personnel to be able to remedy the damage immediately in the event of major crash damage.
