Summer is often synonymous with family holidays, trips of all kinds. While some opt for the plane or the train, a majority of us prefer to travel by car. If you are one of these, be aware that a long drive can not be improvised. Here are some safety tips to make your trip enjoyable and safe.

1 - Prepare your car and keep the safety kits for long journeys

If a revision is necessary, do it before departure, it will detect any anomaly or damage. In addition, even if your car is regularly serviced, look under the hood anyway. Check the levels; make sure there are no leaks. Externally, a visual inspection will suffice most often. Adjust the tire pressure if necessary, examine your windshield, and control your lights. In addition, if you are not a fan of mechanics, make a visit to your car mechanic.

2 - Equip yourself

Do not forget that you will spend long hours in your car with the whole family. Remember to pack enough to distract your children (books, music, games, etc.). A flashlight and a medicine kit can also be useful. Think about the drugs for motion sickness if necessary.

Good to know :

Do not forget the warning triangle and a reflective vest. Be aware that in some countries, the vest is mandatory for each passenger. Remember to inquire if you are leaving for a destination outside France.

3 - Divide the charges

A poorly loaded or overloaded vehicle can become dangerous. Improper handling or bursting of a tire may cause an accident. So remember to properly distribute your luggage. If you leave with a trailer, do not forget to check the reflective equipments and the conformity of the whole (PTAC, PTRA) compared to your car.
