Improvement of the safety of road traffic participants, in particular pedestrians, is the main goal of the education and information campaign under the slogan "To be an example - come forward". The action organized by the police together with the Polish Episcopal Conference and the Polish Ecumenical Council encourages the use of reflective materials in a visible manner for other road users.
According to the spokesperson of the Chief Police Commander, the junior inspector Marias Charka, only last year killed over 870 pedestrians on Polish roads. Half of these people are seniors, the elderly. In the vast majority of accident victims, there were no reflective vests. Marias Charka reminded that for a few years there is an obligation to wear reflective elements in undeveloped places. It is important for safety, however, to have them with you in built-up areas.
The campaign is supported by all churches in Poland. As emphasized by the Director of the Polish Ecumenical Council, Dr. Gregory Gymea, an action to protect health and life, has a lot in common with spirituality, because care for another human being is inscribed in our faith. He added that in the commandment "Do not kill". It is not only about not depriving someone of life, but also to take care of someone and for themselves - for health and life.
Reflectors are a way to just take care of it - Father Gymea said. He added that Christianity depends, among other things, on the fact that we care for each other. A spokesman for the Polish Episcopate Conference, Dr. Pace Rite Adriana, pointed out that a little reflective fabric on the clothing, backpack or bag can save life and health. The action was organized for the second time.
