Available recently on the net or in specialized stores, reflective spray bombs have not yet invaded our cities.

The Belgian Institute for Road Safety (IBSR) carried out a study to determine the effectiveness of these products. The DH also carried out tests.

To be effective, retro reflective material paints must be visible when illuminated and invisible under other conditions. "They can then become an alternative to fluorescent vests, which are considered inconvenient or cumbersome by some. Conversely, if they do not produce the expected results, weak users may have a false impression of safety," says the IBSR at Beginning of its study.

In the course of this survey, the IBSR tested paint samples on fabrics commonly worn outdoors and on building materials; and this in different weather conditions. At DH, we tested the textile bomb and checked its effectiveness on cotton in the dark.

"In view of the results obtained, the IBSR can not recommend the use of this type of retro reflective paint as an alternative to high visibility clothing. Even if the invisible paint, when properly applied, can improve the ability to be seen, the gain is Much less than that of traditional fluorescent jackets "concludes the specialized institute.

Conclude that we share in HR, because even if the spray shows interesting effects during certain tests, it is also critical in many aspects.

First, the reflective effects are only perceptible at a distance of several meters. The spray is not very visible at three meters. Secondly, the product is certainly washable but is highly toxic and polluting, which is stated on the packaging. Third, to see the effect of the product, the precise packaging makes a photo with flash. However, during our tests, we noticed that the spray reflects much more the light of the flashes than that of the car headlights. And finally, the price of a bomb varies between 15 and 25 Euros depending on the volume (100 ml or 200 ml).

"If a properly certified garment is not available, the invisible retro reflective fabric paint can be a good way to increase its visibility but the user must be aware of its limited effect," advises the IBSR. He welcomes the initiative and sees a potential in this type of products.
