The spokeswoman for the citizens' initiative (BI) for a barrier-free train station in Fürstenberg, Elfriede Seidel, is outraged. Bahn AG is not keeping its promises, it said on Monday. For example, weeks after the on-site meeting with a team from RBB in May, the BI asked Deutsche Bahn when passengers could use platform 1 again. So far the platform has been closed because the roof is dilapidated and needs to be repaired.
BI then received an answer in mid-May - with the information that the trains heading north would stop again at the house platform, platform 1. "Unfortunately, not a single traveler could be found who could confirm this fact to me. We see it as gross disregard," stated Elfriede Seidel.
In the meantime, Deutsche Bahn AG told the Fürstenberg city administration that planning for a renewal of the roof is now underway. It is expected to be completed by mid-2020 - within these days. According to Mayor Robert Philipp (non-party), one can now expect the repair to take place this year.
Meanwhile, BI is calling for a three-hour cleaning campaign to take place on June 27 at 10 a.m. The southern part of the house platform is to be cleared of weeds. Because this could make the platform usable over its full length. Which would make it possible that the RE 5 trains could stop at the house platform before the repair and renovation of the roof was completed. Which brings immediate relief for all travelers.
Bring a shovel and pick with you for work, and if possible a reflective safety vest. Small drinks are waiting for the hard-working helpers.
