The Patrol Police launched the Svitlostrochka initiative, aimed at reducing the risk of accidents on the road in the dark. Under the project, the agency, together with experts from the International Criminal Investigation Assistance Curriculum (ICITAP) at the US Department of Justice, developed and launched a batch of special bags with reflective stripes.
This was announced on his Facebook page by the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, Alexei Biloshitsky.
"Ukraine is more than 29 thousand settlements, more than 172 thousand km of roads and about 42 million people. How to protect them on the road? Make it noticeable. That is why the patrol police created a batch of bags with reflective stripes," the law enforcement official noted.
According to him, thanks to the use of such strips on clothes, hats or accessories, the distance from which drivers see pedestrians at night increases threefold - from 30 to 150-200 meters. This means that the risk of an accident also decreases.
"The cost of each such tape is millions of times less than the price of life. Moreover, they say that wearing clothes with such tapes is fashionable. I don’t know that for sure, but I know for sure that it is reasonable and safe," Biloshitsky emphasized.
The Delo.ua police said that it is very important that businesses pay attention to the initiative - in fact, the project is aimed at encouraging Ukrainian brands to be inspired by the police and starting to produce things with reflective material elements.
In total, the department issued 2,000 "promotional" bags. All of them are dark gray and have the shape of opera, on their slats the logo and the inscription "Patrol Police" are printed. Each accessory has two wide reflective stripes sewn on it, and information about the project is placed on the label.
However, it will not work to buy a thing - the police say that the products were not for sale. "Patrolmen will distribute manufactured bags for free at various city events in Kyiv with the participation of the police," they said.
