On the provincial road No. 783, a 47-year-old pedestrian hit by a car. As it was initially established, the man dressed in dark clothing and did not have any reflective materials, and he moved around at dusk, approx18.40, outside the built-up area.

The pedestrian was moving towards Olkusz. He probably wanted to cross the road and went straight in front of the oncoming vehicle. Seriously wounded man went to the hospital in Olkusz. The sobriety test carried out by the police showed that the pedestrian was drunk. It had about 1.4 per mile of alcohol.

Police officers appeal for caution on the road and remind you of the obligation for pedestrians to use reflective vests outside the built-up area. Visibility on the road is of particular importance. The darkness in the early evening causes that the person moving along the road without any reflective elements is not visible, and the driver of the vehicle will notice it at the last moment.

Threats to pedestrians:

The pedestrian sees the car, but the driver does not always see the pedestrian.

On a wet surface, the braking distance of the vehicle increases.

At night or in bad weather, the driver sees a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit from a distance of about 20-30 meters, when it has reflective tapes from a distance of about 120-150 meters.

The most important tips for pedestrians included in the regulations

Pedestrian is:

A person who is outside the vehicle on the road and does not perform the so-called works or other activities provided for by separate regulations.

Driving, pulling or pushing a bicycle, moped, motorcycle, stroller, handrail or disability.

A person moving in a wheelchair,

A child up to the age of 10 driving a bicycle under the care of an adult.

The pedestrian is obliged to use the sidewalk or pedestrian road, and if it is not available from the side of the road. When there is no roadside, a pedestrian can use the roadway - moving on its left side.

When the pedestrian is moving along the road after dark outside the built-up area, it must have a reflective element, unless it goes along a sidewalk or a pedestrian road.

The pedestrian, which moves in the residential zone, takes precedence over the vehicle.

Crossing the road

Crossing the road is possible in designated places. Pedestrian when crossing a pedestrian crossing, must take special care and remember that only a pedestrian, which is on the pedestrian crossing, takes precedence over the vehicle. Passing through a pedestrian crossing on a dual carriageway separated by an island, it must be treated as two separate passages.

If there are no pedestrians on the road, it is possible to cross the road outside of this passage when the distance exceeds 100 meters. Pedestrians may also cross the intersection if it is less than 100 m from the designated passage. In such cases, it is forbidden to run across the road, walk as short as possible without stopping and not slowing down.

When crossing a pedestrian crossing it is obliged to give way to vehicles.

It is forbidden to:

entering the road:

Directly in front of the moving vehicle, including at the pedestrian crossing;

Outside the vehicle or other obstacle limiting the road's visibility.

In addition, it is prohibited to:

Crossing the road in a place with limited road visibility;

Slowing down or stopping without a legitimate need while crossing the road or track;

Crossing the road;

Walking on the track;

Entering the track when the dams or half-floods are lowered or when they have been abandoned;

Crossing the road in a place where the safety device or obstacle separates the pedestrian path or the sidewalk from the road, regardless of which side of the road they are on.

Remember about these important safety rules!
