The government and local governments will jointly next week to check and guide fishing boats. It is also subject to check whether fishing boats guide passengers for safety.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries announced on the 27th that it will conduct joint safety checks and guidance on related fishing vessels from 28th to December 6th, when the fishing season is increased and the weather is worsening, which is the time of fall and winter when the risk of accidents is high.

5-10 ton fishing boats, old fishing boats, and fishing boats with a high number of accidents are the main targets for inspection and guidance. The joint inspection will be conducted by the Ministry of Oceans and Maritime Affairs, the Korea Coast Guard, local governments, the Korea Maritime Safety Agency and the National Fisheries Association.

The Joint Safety Check Group verifies the installation and normal operation of radio communication equipment necessary for emergency rescue of fishing vessels and for receiving weather alerts. The plan is to check whether the equipment, such as fire extinguishers and life safety vests, are equipped to prevent accidents.

In particular, for fishing vessels, the passenger safety-related matters, such as the declaration of confirmation and safety inspection, fishing passenger list, and installation of safety equipment such as life jackets with reflective tapes and railings, will be examined. If deficiencies are found, they will recommend improvements on-site and take action before critical departures.

Fisheries and Fisheries Policy Officer Choi Yong-Seok said, "We expect to raise awareness about the safety of fishing boats and create an autonomous safety management atmosphere."
