3M Poland has become one of the signatories of the Declaration on the development of a safety culture in rail transport, developed by the Office of Rail Transport. The goal of the project is an appropriate level of accident prevention and permanent improvement in rail transport safety.

In July this year, during an official ceremony organized by the Office of Rail Transport, thirty-six representatives of the railway market and various organizations and enterprises signed a Declaration on the development of a safety culture in rail transport. The project is to encourage signatories to promote proper practices and behaviors that will eliminate threats. Railway transport, although it remains one of the safer forms of communication, in the case of serious incidents generates much greater moral and financial losses than road transport. Meanwhile, studies show that in Poland there are over 1,000 incidents per year, including over 600 accidents. The main reasons for such alarming statistics include non-compliance with regulations and low awareness of Poles related to the potential danger.

One of the signatories of the Declaration is 3M Poland. For years, the company has been actively involved in activities that promote solutions that effectively eliminate hazards, both in the work environment and in the transport industry itself. Every year, the company organizes hundreds of OHS training in Poland - for its employees as well as for business partners. Also, 3M in Poland has created a nationwide campaign 'Protect your world', targeted at representatives of various sectors. Its purpose is to show that the health and lives of our loved ones may depend on compliance with a few simple rules. As a partner of the UN Global Compact Network, the company also supports projects such as the "Safe Transport Program" or the Yearbook publishing house.

3M Poland also creates technologically advanced products and solutions, including personal protective equipment for employees, as well as reflective films, used in the production of road signs, ensuring visibility from over 150 m, and thus - increasing safety, e.g. at railway crossings. Also, 3M Poland cooperates with leading manufacturers of rolling stock by providing flame-retardant and certified industrial adhesives and reflective tapes, as well as contouring tapes for clear marking of rail vehicles.

"Our company is known as an innovation leader, producing thousands of products that change reality. However, the creation of scientific inventions and their commercialization are inextricably linked to the ideals we believe in 3M. We know that human safety is one of the highest values, which is why we constantly develop and promote solutions that help protect health and life," said Alain Simonnet, Managing Director of 3M Poland and added, "I am proud that we have been invited to this project and thanks to this we will they could jointly ensure the promotion of the highest standards in Polish rail transport."

The draft Declaration was presented for the first time by the Office of Rail Transport in March 2016. To date, it has already been signed by a total of over 160 entities - representatives of public institutions, carriers, rolling stock manufacturers as well as entrepreneurs and representatives of scientific units, including those not related to the railway industry. The signatories' task is, in addition to improving the technique and organization of work, primarily to shape employee awareness and promote the principles of safety culture.

Project partners can also participate in the Competition for the President of UTK Award, whose main goal is to distinguish people and entities that, thanks to their activities and implemented projects, contribute to an increase in the level of safety in rail transport.
