This figure triples the number of people hit in the last year (5).
The number of deaths in recent years has been oscillating, but this is touching the record. This is the number of people hit and killed in recent years: 2010 (18 deceased), 2011 (9), 2012 (18), 2013 (17), 2014 (9), 2015 (15), 2016 (10), 2017 (5) and 2018 (17, until today)
Pedestrian traffic on a motorway is not allowed. In the event that a driver or passenger must leave the vehicle on a fast track, it is mandatory to put on a reflective vest and it is advisable to stand outside the road and the shoulder.
Especially at night
Oscar Legate, the coordinator of Road Safety and Mobility of the SCT, has confirmed to this day a high number of fatal abuses recorded this year on Catalan roads. "It is very difficult to know why it is happening, for now, we know that the vast majority of abuses occur at night (81%) and that 3 of the 17 victims this year are older than 75 years," said this expert.
A large number of abuses this year have led the SCT to develop two videos with tips to avoid them. "It's about never walking on a road unless it's essential, and in that case, you always have to wear a reflective clothing with reflective material off the road and even on the shoulder and always facing the vehicles to be able to foresee any reaction from the road, " Legate explained.
The person in charge of Road Safety advises in the event of a breakdown on a highway or motorway or stay inside the vehicle with the safety belt on while waiting for help or in case of leaving the car, stand outside the road and on the shoulder, behind of the fence.
