The aim of the "Bicycles" campaign is to reduce the number of events involving cyclists and to make all road users aware that they are also road users. Police officers will pay particular attention during the actions on the right driving relationship - pedestrian - cyclist and adherence to traffic regulations. They will also check the mandatory equipment, such as reflective vests and helmets and sobriety of cyclists.
"Safe pedestrian" activities are mainly directed to pedestrians, because they are not protected by any person technical means, and in contact with a moving car they usually have no chance of survival. Research shows that pedestrians with a collision speed of 50km/h have only about 50% chance of survival, but already at a collision speed of 80km/h, their chances of survival are close to zero. Therefore, the optimal solution, from the point of view of road safety, is the separation of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. However, this is not possible in every case. Therefore it is necessary to observe the appropriate rules of caution.
Pedestrian, as a rule, moving along the road is obliged to give way to the invading vehicle, except in cases where pedestrian priority is given, such as at a designated pedestrian crossing. This passage should be for pedestrians a kind of security asylum, but in real traffic the right of pedestrians is not always respected by drivers. Pedestrians should take special care not only to fulfill their statutory duty, but above all to take care of their own life and health. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that it is forbidden to enter the road directly in front of the moving vehicle, in what should be emphasized, also at the pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian must assess whether entering the road will give the driver a chance to stop safely.
Pedestrians decide about their safety also in other road situations, in particular when they move around outside the built-up area after dark. In this case, pedestrians see the lights of an oncoming vehicle, but the driver cannot see them. In connection with this, the statutory obligation to use reflective materials when moving around a dark place on the road outside a built-up area has its deep substantive justification, because even a small reflective element can save a life. Therefore, Police carries out an "exemplary" campaign in autumn and winter, encouraging pedestrians to take care of their safety.
Unprotected road users must be particularly concerned. Therefore, the Police, as part of activities dedicated to pedestrian safety, above all intensify actions towards drivers who violate the rights of pedestrians, in particular on marked pedestrian crossings. However, it should be emphasized that the safety of pedestrians is not a priority only when conducting the campaign "Unprotected road users". It is more about using these activities to publicize the problem of pedestrian safety and reminds pedestrian to wear safety clothing when go out at night.
