The Municipal Police has purchased 300 reflective vests for the fifth time and will distribute them to the inhabitants of the City and Commune of Krotoszyn as part of the "Be visible on the road" campaign.
Reflective vests are mandatory for pedestrians traveling on roads after dusk outside built-up areas, but there are no obstacles for cyclists or pedestrians in the city to use them. Now and then we hear about accidents involving a vehicle hitting a pedestrian crossing the road at a marked crossing.
"Vests will be distributed at the headquarters of the Municipal Police at ul. Kołłątaja 7 during office hours, upon presentation of an ID card. Those willing will be able to receive a maximum of two vests so that there will be enough for a larger number of people," informs the head of the guards, Waldemar Wujczyk.
For many years, policemen have been talking about the importance of the role of reflective elements in increasing the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists. Good visibility is one of the most important safety factors in road traffic. "In the dark, without reflective elements, we are visible in the low beam from a distance of only 20-30 meters. If the driver is driving at a speed of 90 km / h, then it covers 25 meters of the road in 1 second and there is no chance of any reaction when he notices a pedestrian on his way. However, if a pedestrian is equipped with a reflective element that reflects the car's lights, the driver will notice it from a distance of 130-150 meters, which is about 5-10 times faster. This can save a pedestrian's life," says Piotr Szczepaniak, spokesman for the police in Krotoszyn.
It is worth adding that outside the built-up area, wearing a reflective vest is a legal requirement today, so we encourage everyone to take part in the City Guard campaign.
