An excursion to the steelworks undertaken by the eighth grades of the secondary school Bramsche.
As part of the vocational orientation of the secondary school, Bramsche was for the vintage 8 a factory tour on the syllabus. After a 45-minute bus ride, they arrived at the GmbH and were already welcomed at the factory gate by two former employees. The two highly competent factory leaders worked for over 30 years at the "hut" and were able to answer all questions in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
But first, it went to the modern visitor center on the factory premises. There, the students were newly dressed in safety clothing, hard hat, ear protection, and goggles. And then it was off to the world of steel processing. From the blast furnace, we went to the casting plant. Power consumption and tons of steel processing in the oven astonished the students. After a short walk over the factory site followed the rolling mill. Here it was possible for the adolescents to observe from a "stage" (it resembles more like a command post of a spaceship) how glowing steel is straightened, rolled and cooled. Highest precision and concentration were needed here. Immediately thereafter, the finished steel products were sawn to length and cleaned in the final factory and sent neatly packed on the trip. Above all, the auto industry asks for the high-performance products for engines and transmissions.
After about three hours of guidance, we went back to the starting point, where then in smaller rounds the application possibilities for more than 20 different occupations were discussed. In the end, one student put it succinctly and said: "It's a whole different world!", This steel world.
