In France, Spain, Italy and Hungary motorists are asked to pay fine if without safety vest in the car. From 1 July, German motorists have to pay. However, they come off lightly.

Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) is serious: If you are caught from 1 July without a safety vest in the car, then you must also pay a fine. However, the drivers come in this country too badly as motorists in other European countries.

15 € will be fine after the information of our newspaper. So far, the carriage of a safety vest was imposed only in commercial vehicles and recommended for private cars. The Federal Council, however, had spoken out in the past year for the introduction of a general duty plus penalty for violations. The new regulation applies to all registered cars, trucks, tractors and buses; Motorcycles remain the exception. Motorists should wear the safety vest in the event of a breakdown or accident, recommends the ministry. A compulsory wearing sees the new rule but not before. You sit "on the ownership of road users," said the department.

The new regulation Germany follows the example of most European neighbors, however, not in terms of the amount of the fine. It is rather low. While you have to shell out only 14 Euros a rule in Austria, the penalty in France is at least 90 Euros in Portugal from 60 to 600 Euros. Since 2005, in Italy you have to apply a safety vest if staying at a breakdown or accident outside the car on the road. Violators will be punished with at least 35 Euros. In Spain not wearing the vest costs 91 euro, Slovakia and Hungary to 50 to 100 Euros.

It is important that the orange or yellow safety vest is reflective and the applicable standard equivalent. The product must be according to the new regulations, the designations ISO 20471: 2013 or EN 471 have. It is also only carry a vest, not several. Experts advise them to invest in an accident always before leaving the vehicle. The cost of a high visibility vest usually amount to between two and five Euros.

If the new safety vest is mandatory from July 1, motorists should better buy several West advises Hans-Ulrich Sander, motor expert from TÜV Rheinland. A vest for each occupant ideal is in the vehicle. You should best be deposited in the driver's compartment, for example, in the seat pockets under the front seats, in the glove box or in the door shelves.
