Participants of road safety activity must bring a yellow vest

"Road of death,” an exaggerated term, "usurped" for the Department and more precisely the Departmental House of sustainable development. Responsible for the maintenance of the RD231, they point more to the "errors of conduct" of the users and call to their responsibility with a safety vest, as well as to the respect of the Highway Code.

It suffices however to type the name of the road in a search engine to find that the axis has very bad press and cumulates the fatal accidents. The words of the Department make the relatives of the various victims who have died in different parts of this long sinuous axis leap.

"And we do not know half of the accidents that took place on this road, since there were many others, fatal or not," said the family, another accident victim occurred on the departmental in 2014. The girl, she, did not find death on this road. However, she and her family have seen their daily life change as brutally as for others. Anis has today lost all forms of autonomy. Her parents hope that she will one day find a minimum of mobility and will be able to communicate with them again. They engaged in a daily fight for that.

They share another hope: that work is done to secure the RD231. "We simply wish there would be more accidents," begs Evelyn, Anaya’s mom, who points to the dangerousness of the departmental. "We could even plan the embankments a bit more to improve the visibility in turns, for example," says Anis' father. An investigation is still underway to determine the causes of this accident. Lugosi’s father, Jacky is looking forward to the results of the expertise. "We will complain in any case. The results of the assessment will simply determine how we will do it. However, for the moment, I am waiting to know if my son respected the speed limits and everything suggests that it was the case, "says the father, also convinced of the accidental nature of the road. He adds: "I myself never took this route, I went around the A16.”

For him, there is an obvious solution to secure the road: lower the speed limit. The man does not understand why it remains so high (90 and 70 km / h) and changes several times over a few kilometers. It also points to the lack of visibility in different places. In addition, concerning the very place where his son lost his life, he adds: "this crossroads should have been removed for a long time.” It is not far from this same crossroads that Antoine Boniface, the volunteer firefighter, lost his life a year ago. He was on foot and went up the RD231 in the middle of the night, without a reflective vest. Conduct at risk, but that does not solve Nicolas, his former colleague who lives a few hundred meters from the scene of the accident, to draw a line on what happened.

The white march is above all a tribute, but it also revives the hope of some relatives of victims. All wish only one thing: more security. White March 16th of October, from 9:30 at the school of Ellingham. The procession will join the crossing of the street of Angola. Participants must bring a yellow vest.
